ZemmourBallet creates works to be lived through, not merely watched. Onstage, through encounters, the company embodies Épaissisme—an artistic movement rooted in the full density of human experience.

Founded in Sherbrooke in 2019 by choreographer Nicolas Zemmour, ZemmourBallet is a Québec-based Épaissisme dance company and a Canadian registered charity.

The company creates, produces and tours original choreographic works built around a central conviction: dance can do more than represent human experience—it can allow us to pass through it.

Épaissisme: a language of experience

At the heart of ZemmourBallet lies Épaissisme. More than an aesthetic or visual style, Épaissisme is an artistic movement and a compositional language rooted in the full density of human experience.

Bodies, gestures, speech, music, space and duration are brought into relation to reveal tensions, memories, contradictions and human connections. Each creation is conceived as an experience to be lived through, rather than an object to be merely observed.

Rooted in Sherbrooke, built to circulate

ZemmourBallet holds a permanent artistic residency at the Centre des arts de la scène Jean-Besré and is recognized as a cultural organization by the City of Sherbrooke.

This strong local foundation provides the company with a stable environment for research and creation while supporting the development of selected collaborations in Québec and internationally. Its works are conceived to endure, evolve and circulate across different stages, territories and communities.

Creation as a long-term commitment

ZemmourBallet approaches each work as part of a living repertoire. Performances, public encounters, artistic transmission and cultural engagement extend the experience beyond the stage and deepen the relationship between the work, its performers and its audiences.
